EDP MEPs tell us why they chose to fight for Europe

"Languages, cultures, regional differences and local initiatives must be cherished because they are Europe’s strongest asset."

Dear friends of the European Democratic Party,

You have undoubtedly already learned the terrible news. Our General Secretary Marielle de Sarnez, whose commitment, courage, and intelligence we all appreciated, sadly passed away on Wednesday 13th January. Marielle was a major figure on the French and European political scene whose memory is greeted by the whole political and media world. She was the linchpin of the EDP since its creation in 2004, and with authority and perseverance, she carried our projects to the European Parliament from 2004 to 2017 with the priorities of Europe's ability to become an international player, more human and efficient management of migratory flows, fair and environmentally friendly trade relations, the fight for the respect of human rights throughout the world, the training of young people with Erasmus Mundus and the protection of minors on the Internet.

Our sorrow is immense. The best tribute we can pay to Marielle is to continue our fight for a stronger, fairer, and more democratic Europe. We count on your support.

See you soon for our next meetings.

With my best wishes,

Gérard Deprez, EDP General Delegate
